Found naturally in the whole UK. Typically found in moorland, heathland, woodland and sometime used in acidic lawns (fine leaved plant and shade tolerant). Likes sandy soils, peaty soils and dry soils but can occasionally be found on damper ground.
Grazeable by livestock but slow growing
Shade tolerant
