Wildflowers

Hurrells can offer you a wonderful selection of wild flower mixtures that will help you to create a beautiful wild flower meadow or hedgerow. Every species of wild flower used and stocked here at Hurrells is ‘UK Native’ seed.

We are very keen to look after our wild flower ecotypes in the UK ,and we oppose  the use of foreign imported strains of our UK flowers – that actually pollute our delicate indigenous types by the introduction of invasive foreign pollen.

We are keenly aligned with the ‘flora locale’ and always attempt to use local seed wherever applicable and available.

Hurrells have twenty years experience overseeing projects large and small and have a multitude of testimonials relating to our quality and services.

Wild flowers especially of interest include:

Yellow Rattle:
This is a hemiparasitic plant that gains some of its nutrients from the roots of neighbouring plants. It grows to 25-50 cm tall, with opposite, simple leaves, with a serrated margin. The parasitic qualities have been seen to have a significant positive effect in suppressing near by vegetation,  allowing for greater botanical diversity and of course, a greater profusion of flowers.

Ragged Robin
A UK herbaceous perennial that we see growing in profusion. Tthis delicate flower is especially suitable for, and grows well on wet damp soil meadows. The easily recognisable flowers have five deeply divided narrow petals. Ragged Robin has an extremely long flowering period from May – August and nectar loving bees and butterflies aim for the Ragged Robins.

Testimonial

”I was cautious about using a mix of wild flowers not from the UK, however the results speak for themselves-this is a fantastic product and has turned out to be the most appealing part of the whole project”
