Equine Pastures

Tips for Good Horse Pastures

* The number of horses or Ponies should be appropriate to the amount of land available – Horses can be very wearing and will quickly damage areas that are overstocked.
*All muck should be collected and removed- – his will help control parasite levels.
* Clover levels should be keptĀ at bay or eradicated completely – there are strong links to laminitis in young horses with clover.
*Plants poisonous to horse should not be allowed to grow for example Ragwort.
*Prevent poaching as much as possible – keep field selection to free draining areas if possible.
*Keep horses off fields in wet conditions, try to maintain drainage to minimise sward damage.
*Try to position troughs that naturally get churned up first nearer the well drained areas of the pasture.
