Key Steps For Successful Establishment

* Ploughing of the soil in autumn or spring.

* Rolling

* Cultivate to a fine, firm and level seedbed.

* Roll to level and firm. On clay soil rolling should be done with a Cambridge roller and not a heavy solid roller to prevent capping.

*  On sandy soil a heavy roller is fine.

* Prior to sowing the grass seed, the seed bed needs to be firm enough (very firm) to not leave any impression  when the field is walked on.

* Rolling after sowing is essential to ensure good soil to seed contact and avoiding air pockets.

* Sowing depth critically must not exceed 1cm and less is preferred -nearer the surface 0.5cm is optimum.

* Cross sowing the field in two directions gives a more reliable ground cover quicker than a single pass in one direction.

* If an even higher ground cover is preferred we recommend sowing half the seed mixture 1 way then broadcasting the balance thus avoiding the linear effect seen in many situations.
